WaPo columnist beclowns himself with claim that ‘thirteen former presidents signed a letter’ critical of Trump

Washington Post columnist Philip Bump was already having a rough couple of weeks when he fired off a tweet claiming that 13 former U.S. presidents signed a letter in support of “democracy” and implied disapproval of former President Donald J. Trump and soon regretted it.

Bump, who like the majority of propagandists at the once venerable newspaper, is a full-fledged cheerleader for President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats. He was pimping the “joint letter” and beclowned himself to the point of having to turn off his replies on X, formerly known as Twitter. He later deleted the tweet entirely.

In his alarmist screed titled “Biden’s semi-subtle reminder of the stakes for democracy in 2024,” Bump used recent remarks from two former conservative governors, Mike Huckabee of Arkansas and Sarah Palin of Alaska to suggest that America could be on the cusp of civil war, writing of the letter from the ex-presidents calling for reinforcing “our most basic democratic principles.”

The trouble began for Bump when he posted a link to his column to X with the ridiculous claim that “Thirteen former presidents signed a letter,” a factual impossibility considering that there are only five living ex-presidents and one of them is named Trump.

“The current one released an ad,” Bump added, referring to Biden’s propaganda commercial that was set to air during Thursday night’s nationally televised NFL kickoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions.

Bump’s actual column stated that he was referring to “foundations associated with more than a dozen previous presidents” and not the dead men themselves but the damage was done and the responses were absolutely savage.

“With Trump leading the field of Republican contenders for the party’s presidential nomination next year, it no longer is. And, in an ad released Thursday, Biden again elevated the defense of democracy as a campaign theme — with its indirect indictment of Trump,” Bump wrote of the ad of Biden slobbering over Zelenskyy.

“Centered on his visit to Ukraine earlier this year, a voice-over celebrates Biden’s visit,” he wrote. “‘Joe Biden walked shoulder-to-shoulder with our allies in the war-torn streets,” it says, “standing up for democracy in a place where a tyrant is waging war to take it away.’”

“If your arm is getting sore, it’s because of how hard you’re being nudged,” gushed Bump in his piece.

Bump also recently made a complete fool out of himself when he stalked off of a podcast when confronted over his hero’s crooked foreign business dealings.

The columnist would later delete the tweet entirely as the mockery was apparently just too much for his fragile ego.
