[Updated] Starfield fitness challenge not working or progressing? Try this potential workaround

Here’s the crux of the article in video form:

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Sep. 04, 2023) follows:

Several Starfield players have recently started reporting a bug where the Fitness Challenge is not working or progressing.

In Starfield, fitness is a beginner physical skill that raises your Oxygen intake. However, no matter how many times a player tries to intake a specific amount of Oxygen, it stays at 0.

This further adds to the list of various bugs and issues (1,2,3) that the game has already had since its commencement.

Starfield fitness challenge not working or progressing

The bug where the taskbar stays the same even after using up or exhausting the said Oxygen has become quite aggravating for players (1,2,3,4,5).

My fitness perk challenge will not progress. Anyone else having this issue or know what I’m doing wrong?

Trying to rank up my fitness and whenever I deplete all oxygen, i go to check if the task bar has went up and it hasn’t. Can anyone explain why?

Reports indicate that the skill challenge for Fitness ‘Use up all available oxygen 20 times’ is not progressing at all. In fact, in doing so, it causes some players’ health to decline in order to use up all the oxygen.

This is incredibly frustrating for a number of players as it is seriously affecting their gameplay. Those affected are now looking for ways to fix the issue.

Potential workarounds

Luckily, we have come across a few workarounds that can help fix this glitch temporarily. It includes removing your space suit while only keeping a baseball cap and some clothes on.

EDIT: MIGHT HAVE FOUND SOMETHING! Its tracking! I took off space suit and boost pack, running around a planet with a baseball cap and clothing

Alternatively, you can try implementing the following steps in order to complete your fitness challenge:

Some are also claiming to fill up both the white bar (O2) and the red bar (CO2) in order for the challenge to progress.

You need to burn through your O2 (white bar) AND CO2 (Red Bar full) in order to complete all 20 for the second level.

Since there’s no official acknowledgment and a permanent fix, those who are grappling with this issue can try the workarounds mentioned above.

We hope that the developers look into the reports and come up with a fix as soon as possible.

That said, we’ll keep an eye on this topic and update you whenever we come across the latest developments.

Update 1 (September 6, 2023)

05:12 pm (IST): According to a player, Starfield fitness challenge is not really buggy, but the description is ‘badly worded’, as players need to empty their O2 and fill the red CO2 bar fully for it too count.
