Jay Bothroyd would love Arsenal to sign 27-year-old striker

Jay Bothroyd has said that he would love Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.

The former Arsenal prospect has noted the attributes of Ivan Toney that would make him a good signing for the Gunners.

The Sky Sports pundit has said that Toney scores goals and is strong, adding that he would make Arsenal a better team upfront.

Interestingly, the Gunners have been linked with the England international striker.

The Times reported in August 2023 that Arsenal could make a bid for Toney in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old is serving a ban at the moment and will be available to play again only in January 2024.

The Times added that Brentford want as much as £80 million for the England international.

Bothroyd said about Toney on Sky Sports: “He scores goals, he is prolific, he is strong, he leads the line really well.

“If you put him in any of the big teams, he is going to score at least 20 Premier League goals a season. Great on penalties.

“I would love Arsenal to sign him.”

Arsenal could struggle to sign Ivan Toney in January 2024

We do not think that Arsenal would find it easy to sign Ivan Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the January transfer window.

First of all, Toney would not have played for Brentford for months.

Would the striker really be willing to leave the Bees on such a note?

Secondly, Brentford may not be willing to sell the striker in the middle of the season.

In January, the Bees could be in the running for the European places in the Premier League table.

The London club might want to wait until next summer to sell Toney.

Moreover, Arsenal might not be willing to pay £80 million for a striker in the middle of a season where he would not have played a single minute.
