‘He’s so underrated’: Ferguson thinks West Ham could sign Manchester United engine in January

Barry Ferguson thinks Scott McTominay could make a move from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United to David Moyes’ West Ham United in January.

The former Scotland midfielder thinks that Scott McTominay needs to think about his game time ahead of Euro 2024 in Germany – there is every chance Scotland now qualify.

Added to that, Ferguson also feels that the West Ham United summer transfer target, who is the joint top-scorer during Euro 2024 qualifiers, is ’so underrated’, as he told Go Radio.

Only seven minutes. That’s the time ten Hag has allocated to McTomiany this season.

Given that West Ham United were keen on the player, then you have to question why they just didn’t let him leave.

With Sofyan Amrabat joining the club on a loan deal on transfer deadline day, then you would imagine it only decreases McTominay’s chances of playing and, as a result, heading for an exit in January.

Scott McTominay to leave in January?

“I think he is so underrated, Scott McTominay,” said Ferguson. “Brilliant size in the middle of the pitch. He has also done a job at the back for Scotland. I really like him.

“Manchester United need a player like that, at this moment in time. I can’t believe he isn’t getting a look in.

“He will need to look at that seriously. If he isn’t getting much game time, then he needs to go somewhere. Even if it’s until the end of the season in January.

“There are a number of clubs who would take, Scott McTominay. What were they talking about £35-40 million with West Ham? If clubs aren’t willing to do that, then I am sure he needs to sit down with the manager and say ‘listen, I have Germany to think of. Any chance I can go out on loan?’

Would McTominay get game time at West Ham?

That Declan Rice money has been spent, with a number of players from across Europe being added to David Moyes’ squad.

Two of them include Edson Alvarez from Ajax and James Ward-Prowse from relegated Southampton, the latter has started like a house on fire.

Not forgetting Moyes’ favourite, Tomas Soucek, so you would imagine if McTominay were to come in, he will have a number of players ahead of him, unless West Ham are struggling in January, which then just makes a possible move more likely.
