Buffalo Bills star safety Damar Hamlin is been dragged because of the jacket he wore at Super Bowl LVII.

The jacket was a collaboration with the brand SAINT Mxxxxxx and sold for thousands of dollars. It’s called “Travis Jesus”.

According to Hamlin, he wore the jacket without any sentimental reason other than to portray himself as being blessed and resurrected. Recall that the Bills safety endured a cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January.

During a Monday Night Football game on January 2, 2023, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest after making a tackle. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) were quickly administered before he was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. After showing notable signs of improvement Hamlin was transferred to a Buffalo hospital, and nine days after the incident he was discharged to rehabilitate from home.

Adrian Peterson (Former NFL running back) was among those who threw stones at him.

Peterson said:

“You should be thanking God son! This is Blasphemy!! We all fall short but c’mon man. I find this disrespectful.”

Peterson then said that he spoke to Hamlin regarding the jacket to get his point of view.

“So I spoke with Damar, and we were able to discuss our thoughts as men. I want to be clear, I’m the last person to judge anyone, and that was never my intention. However, I do feel as if the jacket was disrespectful and it was something that I needed to share.

“I do realize everyone makes mistakes and falls short at times, so again, my intention was never to judge, just to share my opinion. Damar, I have respect and love for you and I wish you nothing but the best, but I just can’t rock with that jacket.”

So much pressure was in the atmosphere nd Hamlin couldn’t but made a way to find peace by making an apology post on his Twitter. He wrote:

“After talking with my parents I understand how my coat could have offended some people. It was never my intention to hurt or disrespect anyone, the coat is abstract art to me. It says Eternal which I am Eternally thankful to my Savior!”

Hamlin added:

“My beliefs and Relationship with God is not tied to symbolic images. I will learn from this and continue to walk in Love as I ALWAYS have. Matthew 7:1-5.”

Hamlin stress that his intentions for his choice of attire was never to hurt anyone. It will be interesting to see if he keeps it in his wardrobe and wears it again.

The back of the jacket featured an abstract illustration of Jesus on the cross under the word “ETERNAL.” The front featured an abstract depiction of Jesus’ face and appears to reference a Bible verse that reads: “Without end or beginning there is no day and no night.”

Hamlin’s apology comes after former NFL MVP Adrian Peterson deemed the jacket as “blasphemy” for its portrayal of religious imagery. “You should be thanking God son!” Peterson wrote in since-deleted Instagram post.

Who Is Damar Hamlin?

Damar Romeyelle Hamlin, famously know simply as Damar Hamlin, was born on March 24, 1998. He is an American football safety for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). At the University of Pittsburgh he played college football  and was selected by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Hamlin spent most of his early season as a backup before becoming a starter in 2022 following a season-ending injury to Micah Hyde. He was raised in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. He attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was named first-team All-State and the Class AAAA Defensive Player of the Year.
